Just returned from the “patron party” for Monday’s Nexus Spring Luncheon. Unlike some patron parties that are held in the most swellegant homes, luncheon Co-chairs Robin Bagwell and Jan Osborn arranged to have this one at the Nexus Recovery Center. Yes, major underwriters were on hand to meet and greet luncheon headliner/actress/author of “Guts” Kristen Johnston, but so were the women and children, who live at the center.
Was Kristen surprised? Yes. . . and delighted. She admitted she was prepared for a typical sponsors party, but this was a wonderful change. Kristen then added that she was amazed that this unique recovery center provides for moms to bring their children during their stay at the center. To quote Kristen, “Well, duh! That makes so much sense.”
As she toured the facility, Kristen chatted it up with the residents and joked about how people sometimes mistake her for Kirstie Alley.
If you’re attending the luncheon, prepare to laugh and learn. This woman speaks her mind with humor, compassion and “guts”.
PS — BTW, Kristen is as tall as six-foot-tall Jan Strimple and has better hair than Kirstie Alley.
