Despite all the news generated by the Dallas Opera, the main subject at the Women’s Board’s Juanita and Henry S. Miller Founders Award Luncheon on Thursday, February 28, at Brook Hollow was the loss of Vance Miller. The son of the late Juanita and Henry Miller Jr. had died unexpectedly just days before. His memorial service was to be held that afternoon. Luncheon Co-chairs Carmen Glenn

and Jolie Humphreys revealed that they had asked Vance’s wife, Tincy, about rescheduling the fundraising luncheon. But Tincy, who certainly knows all that is required in organizing a fundraising event, probably recognized the behind-the-scenes challenges such a postponement would require and insisted that the luncheon go on.

The only change in this year’s program would be the tradition of a Miller family member presenting the award. Needless to say, the family was represented in spirit as the award was presented to longtime opera supporters Joy and Ronald Mankoff, who underwrote the Joy and Ronald Mankoff Pre-Performance Lecture.

Before the luncheon with its “sneak peak at Dallas Opera’s education offerings,” a champagne reception took place on the patio with the likes of Simona Beal and her mom Luda, Marnie and Kern Wildenthal, Nancy Bierman, Anne Stodghill, Kelli Ford, Jennifer and Keith Cerny and Joyce Mitchell.
