Saturday, April 20: Years ago there was a very active organization called The Network of Hispanic Communicators. One of the driving forces was Gary Pina, who worked for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. As Gary put it recently, the group “went dormant in 2008 because our industry was going through some rough times. (I was laid off from the Star-Telegram after 23 years but landed with neighborsgo at The Dallas Morning News.) The group came back slowly in 2010. We elected officers again in 2011, and celebrated our 30th year as a group. . . We changed our name to Hispanic Communicators DFW.””
To celebrate, they’re holding the Scholarship Award Banquet at the new hot venue, Trinity Groves. PBS NewsHour Senior Correspondent Ray Suarez will be the keynote speaker and WFAA’s Gloria Campos will serve as mistress of ceremonies.
This fundraiser is a great opportunity for clients and companies to do more than just give lip service in supporting a very vital and important part of our community.
