There Are People Among Us Who Don’t Want To Be Here

As the SMU Meadows Museum marketing folks reminded us, there are countless people who are stuck in Dallas because they cannot return to the East Cost due to Hurricane Sandy. North Texans are so very aware of the chaos and damage that weather can wreak upon a community and individuals. Or, do we need to relive the Super Bowl debacle or the hundreds and hundreds of people who sought refuge in the area because of Katrina and other hurricanes?

Let’s show hospitality, patience and understanding for those who are far away from homes and families that have suffered monumental calamity.

As you look at your home and realize you have standing walls, power for your computer and a job to go to, think about those stranded here who do not know what has befallen them. We have the luxury of knowing we are safe and sound and surrounded by friends and family. On the other hand, these East Coasters are struggling to communicate with people back home and frantically trying to make connections to get home.

If you have a couple of dollars to rub together, send them to the Red Cross for those truly in need.
