Have just returned from Southfork where the Cattle Baronesses are stuffing favor bags, preparing the silent auction tent and handling last-minute details for Saturday night’s gala. Even NBC 5′s Deborah Ferguson was out there getting a feel for the layout.
Yes, there were clouds forming and everyone knows rain is predicted. But Co-chairs Skye Brewer and Kristen Johnston have arranged for a tent to be erected over the area in front of the Andrews Distributing Main Stage. The tent is so big that it will cover 3,300 guests. Barnum & Bailey, eat your hearts out.
The seating arrangement has been adjusted. Instead of having a pasture full of tables, only the VIP section will have tables. The rest will have theater-style seating. There are two pluses for this layout. First all 3,330 will be under the tent. Second, it means that instead of being way far back from the stage, the rows of seats will allow guests to be closer to the stage for Blake Shelton. Yahoo!!!
If you’re not a VIP, you’ll still need your table ticket so you can get your assigned seat.
And don’t go thinking that that’s the only change. No way. Skye and KJ have an entirely different layout from the last two years. General admission guests will still enter via gate 4, but they won’t be walking between the little buildings. Nope! The entry is a freestanding stone and log arch with a water wall. (Reminder: Do not forget your parking voucher. They won’t let you on the property without one.)
The feel is not wild west. Think more Ralph Lauren complete with a Texas-sized moose head overlooking the Bank of America/Merrill Lynch/U.S. Trust Live Auction Stage. Moose’s name is up for grabs at this point. One person is calling him Bullwinkle and another “Mickey Moose.” Regardless, the crew was preparing to install his antlers which are longer than a car.
But there are some things that just don’t change — loads of food, beverages, silent auction items, music, AT&T Trophy Room with huge flat screens, ferris wheel and people watching.
