It was announced just a couple of minutes ago and we wanted you to be the first to know. Those two make-it-happen partners — Robin Bagwell and Jan Osborn — told the Annual Information Meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary of Nexus Recovery Center that they’ve lined up their speaker for the Monday, April 22 Nexus fundraising luncheon at the Hilton Anatole — Kristen Johnston.
Sorry about all those long hyphens.
Robin and Jan just returned from New York City, where they locked down Kristen for the luncheon.
OMG!
Yes, of course, you know Kristen from her role as Sally Solomon on “3rd Rock from the Sun,” where she earned two Emmy Awards. You may not know that she’s done oh-so much more than Sally. She’s now in TV Land’s new comedy “The Exes” on Wednesday nights, teaching acting at NYU and MCC’s youth outreach program.
But you expect an actress to do that kind of “stuff.” What you may not know is her first book, “GUTS, the endless follies and tiny triumphs of a giant disaster” (Gallery books at Simon & Schuster), was published this past March and she also “runs the charitable organization SLAM (Sobriety, Learning and Motivation) which is dedicated to creating a public high school designed to providing a top-notch education for at-risk youths while recovering from their life-threatening addictions.”
Another things you might not know is that she posed nude for PETA to protest the horse-drawn carriages in NYC . . . and she was addicted to Vicodin causing her stomach to explode, as she revealed in her book. The book is a fascinating read. Why, even the dedication to the “overworked, underpaid, talented, and occasionally mildly unpleasant staff” of the hospital where she was treated grabs your attention. Before you think about buying the book, why not check out the interview Kristen did for EW.com. Then you’ll really want to get the book . . . right after you buy your ticket to the luncheon.
Let’s face it. Plan on having some “guts” for lunch on April 22.
