According to 20th Annual Cabaret Gala Chair Yvonne Crum,
“Well, he’s done it again! So, the saying goes and has gone for the past 20 years! The ‘who’ is longtime DCT staffer Artie Olaisen and the ‘what’ is the 20th annual Cabaret Gala which he has lovingly produced since 1993. His lovechild was originally conceived as a one-time event to celebrate Dallas Children’s Theater’s 10th anniversary. That magical night in 1993 not only restored The Fairmont Dallas’ Venetian Room to its former glory and purpose, it introduced Dallas audiences to Andrea Marcovicci, the reigning queen of this intimate art form and no one was going to let him get away with just one night! Dallas was suddenly on the radar and wish-list of every celebrated cabaret performer. Those that followed have included Julie Wilson, Karen Akers, Marilyn Maye, Amanda McBroom, Mary Cleere Haran, Christine Andreas, Liz Callaway, Karen Mason, KT Sullivan, Maude Maggart, Klea Blackhurst, Jeff Harnar and Jason Graae.
“It also launched a love affair between Artie and his audience, the many Dallas patrons who have supported his effort thru the years. It is that love for his commitment to DCT and the great American songbook that inspired (moi) Yvonne Crum to return to my role as Gala Chair along with several past Chairs who I have enticed to form a group “The Leading Ladies” and they are Ruth Buzzi, Yvonne Crum, Caroline Rose Hunt, Carolyn Lupton, Jill Rowlett, and Dee Wyly. We’re hoping to generate additional support this year in honor of Artie’s many years of service to DCT and the arts community.
“The guest artist for this special anniversary year will be Emily Bergl, best known for her turn as Beth Young on Desperate Housewives and appearances on Southland and Men in Trees. She recently took the New York club scene by storm with her performances at The Algonquin and the prestigious Café Carlyle. She makes her Dallas debut at the 20th annual Cabaret Gala on Saturday, October 6th. It’s a sophisticated and fun after-dinner affair. For sponsorship or ticket information, contact, guess who, Artie Olaisen at artie.olaisen@dct.org or by calling 214.978.0110.”
