You’d think with all the western-themed shindigs around here, folks would have a separate closet just for Dale Evans and Roy Rogers gear. But even the chap-set styles and trends are ever-changing, so updating is a constant exercise.
Last Tuesday folks heading for the May 12th Equest Triple Crown Gala at Park Lane Ranch and Equestrian Center discovered a new work-out room for such exercising — Pinto Ranch at NorthPark. Leading the ladies in their training was Equest Gala Chair Jocelyn White, who managed to get her good buddy leather artist Carrie Cameron to provide a trunk showing of her Cock of the Walk goodies like boots, corsets and such. What was that? Corsets, you say? Yup. But these are leather and you wear them on the outside of your outfit.
While Steve Kemble, who was dressed in all black to attend the “GCB” sneak preview later at the Angelika, tried on one corset, Carmaleta Whiteley sized the situation up economically, “I could just dress up all my black outfits with one of these.”
In another part of the store, Carrie’s far-from-faint boots stood toe-to-toe on the table as guests picked and tried.
The event also provided an opportunity for newcomers to the therapeutic horse program to learn about the operation. Pamela Graham admitted that she didn’t have a horse and didn’t even ride, but she was interested in the benefits provided for children, as well as returning members of the military.
Darla Ripley, on the other hand, is an old hand with the world of horses. No, she isn’t into cutting, roping and branding. Darla’s time, money and energy has been along the same lines as Lisa and Kenny Troutt — raising race horses. However, she admitted that the family was starting to scale back from the hands-on involvement.
Perhaps the former Dallas debutante should think about turning her knowledge and appreciation of horses to Equest. They’re open for business and welcome newcomers, y’all.
